1971 Fender Stratocaster hardtail, Sunburst

This 1971 Fender Stratocaster is a superb lightweight example from the CBS period, featuring the desirable four-bolt neck. It has that classic early-’70s look and feel, and the hardtail configuration delivers a really nice punch and sustain compared to the tremolo-equipped versions.
It remains largely original, with only a few mods: a pro refret with larger fretwire, a changed nut and a replacement neck pickup cover. A five-way switch replaces the original three-way safely retained in the case. Condition is excellent overall, showing only light playwear and presenting beautifully. It’s also notably lightweight for the era, which adds to the resonance and comfort.
The neck is chunky and feels great in the hand. It's dated July ’71, and all three CTS pots match from the final week of 1970 (7052).
The original grey-bottom pickups are perfectly intact and sound punchy, open, and lively, with a focused midrange and that extra authority you get from a hardtail bridge. Overall they're well balanced and are capable of everything from punchy rhythm to cutting lead tones.
With 70s Fender being on the inconsistent side, this one is proof that there are some excellent, lightweight examples that can hold their own. Cones complete with its correct orange-lined black Tolex Fender case.
